     This memorial website was created to remember John Ernest Carr who was born in Gloversville, New York on April 21, 1929 and passed away on August 5, 2008. He will live forever in our memories and hearts.

     John Ernest Carr, 79, of West Peoria, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy.

     John was born in Gloversville, New York on April 21, 1929, a son of Harry B. and Catherine (McCormick) Carr. They preceded him in death, along with ten brothers and sisters, including Faith Knight of East Peoria.

     He is survived by his brother-in-law, Clyde “Bud” (Frieda) Knight of East Peoria; dear friend, Hobert Etheridge of Peoria Heights; sisters, Hope Carr Ruller and Mary V. Carr, both of Gloversville; and several nieces and nephews.

     He retired from the U.S. Navy on January 25, 1968, after twenty-one years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

     He earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupational Medal (2), the United Nations Medal (2), the Korean Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (3), the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (2) and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

     Throughout his naval career, he served aboard the USS Charles H. Roan (DD-853), the USS Jarvis (DD-799), the USS Bennington (CVA-20) and was stationed at US NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA.

     John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria and was a bartender for several Peoria area bars. He was also formerly employed through Kings Park Mobile Home Park.

     Cremation rites have been accorded. John's cremated remains will be scattered at sea, with full military honors, from aboard a U.S. Navy vessel in the South Pacific.

     Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.
